ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 – Ireland Shocks England in the League Match

March 3, 2011 – What a great victory for Ireland over England in the league match held on Tuesday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.

After seeing the target set by England to Ireland, I thought the match is in the hand of England who is going to taste the victory. I was in final decision still the England bowler James Anderson who opened his bowling by taking a wicket in the very first ball.

Ireland lost their five wickets for very few runs, but it was later Kevin O’Brien who stepped into bat. There is no idea in the mind that this fellow batsman is going to play till the end. But it was a great shock for me seeing the batting of Kevin. There started a bad time for England captain Strauss. He has no idea to control Kevin, who batted really well hitting boundaries and sixes all the way.

His brilliant knock of 50ball 100 runs made Ireland to create history in this 2011 Cricket World Cup. I didn’t expect that Ireland will win the thriller after losing Kevin O’Brien. But the other two batsmen have made it for their team.

The innings from O’Brien’s was breathtaking.

Final Scores:

England 327 for 8 (Trott 92, Bell 81, Pietersen 59, Mooney 4-63)

Ireland 329 for 7 (K O’Brien 113, Cusack 47, Swann 3-47)

Finally Ireland beats England by three wickets with 5 balls in hand and creates history in world cup history chasing the highest run.

Happy Kevin !! Happy Ireland !!
